Yellow brick road to maintaining heritage
General Demolition has launched a new business unit specialising in the reclamation and re-use of bricks. Based at Walton on Thames in Surrey, General Reclaimed Bricks offers a wide range of yellow and mixed stock bricks to developers, house builders and the building trade.
“We have a large stock of bricks and offer a high quality service combined with prompt delivery,” explains George Stainton, general manager of General Reclaimed Bricks. “All our bricks are cleaned and palletted and are ideal for building work that involves matching bricks to original stock.”
Many bricks have special characteristics and colour variations that typify old brickwork, a combination that gives reclaimed bricks a unique charm and character. London bricks are one of the most sought after types of brick for decorative, conservational and structural use. With its distinctive colour and soft appearance, London stock brick is the most common of building bricks used in London. The colour comes from the yellow clay the bricks are made from which is found in Kent.
“Most of our bricks are typically more than 60 years old and are reclaimed from demolition sites throughout London and the Home Counties,” added George. “Brick reclamation and re-use makes a significant contribution to efficient resource recovery as well as helping to maintain our heritage.” Click here for images.
